Staycation Bliss: A Couple’s Escape at the JW Marriott Las Vegas

Beautiful Fireplace at the JW Marriott Lobby

It had been far too long since we’d taken a vacation. Between work, raising kids, and pouring endless hours into building Everyday.Vegas Magazine, the idea of hopping on a plane for a week-long getaway just didn’t feel realistic.

But staying in Las Vegas doesn’t mean you can’t escape it for a while.

Sometimes the best vacation is the one where you don’t have to pack your passport, deal with TSA, or drive more than 20 minutes.

That’s exactly what inspired us to book a two-night staycation at the JW Marriott in Summerlin.

The Suite Life

Our weekend started with check-in, where we were handed the keys to a Junior Suite.

The space was stunning—airy and spacious, with a modern aesthetic that still carried a warm, welcoming vibe.

The living room gave us plenty of room to sprawl out, and from the window, we had a serene view of the Zen Garden.

The bathroom, well, that could have been its own getaway. Huge, gleaming, and indulgent, it felt like a small spa all on its own.

From the moment we stepped in, we knew we had made the right choice. This wasn’t going to be just another night away—it was a genuine reset button for both of us.

Spa Aquae: A Couple’s Escape

Because we had promised ourselves this staycation would be more than just lounging around, we booked a couple’s massage at Spa Aquae.

And wow—this spa is on a whole different level. Tucked just steps from the main tower, it feels like a world of its own.

The calming lobby, the scent of eucalyptus in the air, and the sound of water instantly set the tone.

Our massage suite was private and peaceful, and the therapists had that perfect mix of professionalism and warmth that made us feel completely at ease.

But it wasn’t just the massage. The spa has its own pool, hot tub, and relaxation areas that rival anything you’d find on the Strip.

After our treatments, we spent time soaking in the private pool, sipping tea, and letting the hours drift by.

It was indulgent without being stuffy, relaxing without being boring. Just steps away, the main JW Marriott pool offered a more casual vibe—no reservations needed, just sunshine, loungers, and a much quieter crowd than what you’ll find at Strip mega-resorts.

First Night: Italian Romance at ai Pazzi

After our spa escape, we got ready for dinner. On the menu was ai Pazzi, the newly opened Italian restaurant tucked between Jade Asian Kitchen and the hotel.

It’s easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there, but I’d already heard good things. The restaurant buzzed with energy yet still felt intimate.

The kind of place where you can sip wine and lose track of time in conversation.

The dishes were fresh, creative, and plated beautifully. What struck us most was how different it felt from the usual casino-restaurant experience.

Instead of rushing us in and out, the staff seemed invested in making our night special. For a couple looking to reconnect, it was exactly what we needed: a romantic dinner without the chaos of the Strip.

A Lucky Morning

The next morning started with Starbucks, which, of course, came with a Vegas-sized price tag.

We laughed about it, sipped our lattes, and decided to press our luck in the Rampart Casino.

Normally, I don’t have great stories about slot machines, but this morning turned out differently.

Somehow, against all odds, we actually managed to recoup a portion of the staycation costs. It felt like the casino was giving us a little wink, as if to say, “Enjoy this one on us.”

Just in case you were wondering, it wasn’t. This is not a sponsored story.

That win set the tone for the day. We spent some time at the pool, alternating between swimming and dozing in the shade, before heading back to the suite for an afternoon nap.

There’s something magical about napping in the middle of the day when you’re away from home—it feels indulgent in a way that’s impossible to recreate during the daily grind.

Second Night: Steak at Hawthorn Grill

For our second night’s dinner, we had reservations at Hawthorn Grill, a steakhouse inside the Spa Tower that has built a reputation as one of Summerlin’s best.

It didn’t disappoint. From the warm bread and butter at the start to the perfectly cooked steaks, it was the kind of meal that makes you want to linger over each bite.

The sides—crispy Brussels sprouts with spicy aioli and garlic-sautéed mushrooms—were just as memorable as the entrées.

Hawthorn Grill struck that balance between upscale dining and approachable comfort. It wasn’t stuffy or pretentious, just good food in a beautiful setting.

By the end of dinner, we were full, happy, and already talking about when we’d come back.

The Zen Garden Walk

After dinner, we strolled through the Zen Garden, where pathways wind past koi ponds, waterfalls, and bridges.

In that moment, I turned to my wife and said something that had been circling in my mind all weekend: what sets JW Marriott apart isn’t just the amenities or the food.

It’s the separation. Unlike Strip resorts, where the party never stops, here you have the option to step away from the madness.

Our View to the Zen Garden

You don’t run into drunk bachelor parties in the hallways. You don’t hear the thrum of celebrity DJs from your room.

Instead, you’re surrounded by families, business travelers, and couples like us who want a quieter, more restorative experience.

And yet, if you want the thrill of Vegas, it’s right there. A one-minute walk into Rampart Casino and you’re back in familiar territory: clinking slot machines, bustling tables, the hum of a night out.

That duality—the ability to dip in or completely opt out—is what makes JW Marriott feel like a true staycation sanctuary.

Final Reflections

By the end of our 48 hours, we felt like we had gone somewhere far away, even though home was just a short drive down the road.

The suite gave us space to breathe, the spa gave us a chance to unwind together, and the restaurants gave us moments to reconnect over amazing meals.

More than that, the JW Marriott reminded us that sometimes the best way to recharge is to change your setting, not your zip code.

If you’re a local couple looking for a romantic escape without the hassle of travel, this resort delivers on every level.

It’s not just a hotel stay—it’s a reminder that Las Vegas has more than one kind of magic, and sometimes the quiet kind is the most powerful of all.
