Last Sunday, after picking up a few items at the Lake Las Vegas Farmers Market, we decided to keep the day going with a stop on Water Street. The last few times we made our way through this part of Henderson, we had such good experiences at Johnny Mac’s, Biscuits & Bourbon, and even a sweet boba tea stop at No. 1 Boba, that it only felt right to keep exploring.
Water Street has been growing into one of those local areas where every visit feels like there is another place worth trying. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, casual bites, and neighborhood hangouts keep popping up, and for us, that is exactly the kind of area that makes a Sunday ride feel complete.
This time, we found ourselves at Sticks Tavern, a local sports bar that presents itself simply and proudly: all sports, all locals. Funny enough, I did not immediately connect the name to a hockey-themed sports bar. I am not the biggest hockey fan, but a bar is a bar, and whatever the theme may be, we are usually looking for the same thing: good people, good food, and another good experience along the ride.

A Water Street Stop With Local Personality
As we walked into Sticks Tavern, we were greeted by our bartender, who immediately made the place feel welcoming. She was smiley, lively, and genuinely seemed like the kind of person who wanted you to feel like you belonged there, even if it was your first time walking through the door.
She showed us to our seats, went over the menu, gave us a few drink options, and gave us a few minutes to settle in. That kind of service makes a difference, especially in a local bar where the regulars already know each other and you are still figuring out the room.

As we looked around, it became pretty clear that we were the only “new people” in the bar. Everyone else seemed to be having their own conversations, but somehow, all those conversations also seemed connected. It had that true neighborhood feel where people may sit in different spots, but they are still part of the same room.
After a couple of minutes, one of the patrons left, and from somewhere behind us we heard, “See you tomorrow.” Now that is local. Not “see you soon,” not “have a good one,” but see you tomorrow. That one line told us a lot about the place.
The Sticks Tavern Vibe
Sticks Tavern is exactly what you want a casual sports bar to be. It is laid-back, friendly, and full of screens so you can keep up with whatever game is on. According to their website, the tavern is a non-smoking sports bar with gaming, Golden Tee, darts, 13 big screen TVs, Friday night live music, Saturday karaoke, daily happy hour, and breakfast served all day.
That combination gives the place a little bit of everything. You can come in to catch a game, meet friends for drinks, grab casual food, play a little video poker, or just enjoy a low-pressure night out without needing the place to be fancy.

We have had our share of bar experiences around town, and not all of them land the same. Some places get too rowdy, too crowded, too dark, or just feel like they are trying too hard. Sticks Tavern felt easier than that. It had energy, but it was comfortable. It had regulars, but it did not feel closed off. It had sports bar personality, but it still worked for a simple casual date night.
Starting With Cold Beer and Fried Jalapeños
We started with a couple of Sierra Nevada draft beers, which felt like the right choice for the setting. Cold beer, sports on the screens, and a Sunday afternoon on Water Street is a combination that does not need much explaining.
Fried Jalapeños
For our starter, we ordered the fried jalapeños, and this one definitely wakes you up. These are chopped jalapeños, deep-fried in batter, and served with a house dip on the side. If you like spicy food, or maybe more accurately, if you like a kick in the palate, this is the appetizer for you.

They had that bar snack quality that makes you keep reaching for another bite, even as the heat builds. Crispy, spicy, salty, and just messy enough to feel right in a tavern setting, the fried jalapeños were a fun way to start the meal.
Bar Food That Hits the Spot
One thing I always appreciate about a good local bar is when the food is not treated like an afterthought. At Sticks Tavern, the menu gives you plenty of options for a casual meal, whether you are there for lunch, dinner, drinks, or a long game-watching session.
We were hungry enough to order more than just snacks, so we went with two different entrees: a grilled chicken sandwich and a BBQ chicken salad. Both felt like classic tavern choices, but each gave us a different side of the kitchen.
Crispy Chicken Sandwich
Crispy Chicken Sandwich With Fries
The crispy chicken sandwich comes with grilled or crispy chicken, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions, and Thousand Island dressing on a brioche bun, served with fries. We went with the crispy version, and it was exactly the kind of sandwich you want in a neighborhood sports bar.
The chicken was satisfying, the brioche bun gave it that soft, slightly rich bite, and the Thousand Island dressing added enough flavor to make it more interesting than a basic chicken sandwich. The fries on the side completed the plate in the way only fries can.

This is not the kind of dish trying to reinvent anything, and honestly, that is part of the charm. It is a solid bar sandwich, made for someone who wants something familiar, filling, and easy to enjoy with a beer next to it.
BBQ Chicken Salad
BBQ Chicken Salad With Crispy Tortillas
The BBQ chicken salad came with romaine, BBQ grilled chicken, black beans, corn, and crispy tortillas on top. This was the lighter order of the two, but still had enough flavor and texture to feel like a full meal.
The BBQ chicken gave the salad a smoky, slightly sweet flavor, while the black beans and corn made it feel hearty. The crispy tortillas on top added crunch, which is always a good move when you are ordering a salad in a bar. It gave the dish that casual Southwest-style feel without making it too heavy.

Between the sandwich and the salad, we got a good sense of what Sticks Tavern does well. The food is approachable, satisfying, and built for the environment. It is the kind of menu that works whether you are watching hockey, meeting a friend for lunch, or stopping in after walking around Water Street.
A Sports Bar for Locals, Regulars, and First-Timers
The more time we spent inside Sticks Tavern, the more the place made sense. This is not just a bar with televisions on the wall. It is a neighborhood spot where people clearly come back often, where the staff knows the rhythm of the room, and where a first-timer can still feel comfortable enough to settle in.

There are video poker machines for those who like to add a little interest to their outing, plenty of screens for catching the available games, and enough activity around the room to keep things lively without feeling overwhelming.
And yes, the hockey theme is there. If the Golden Knights are playing, this feels like an obvious place to stop. If you are a Montreal Canadiens fan, no judgment here either. Well, maybe a little friendly judgment, but that is part of the fun.
Why Sticks Tavern Works on Water Street
Water Street is definitely growing, and it shows in the variety of food and drink spots along the street. What makes Sticks Tavern a good fit is that it does not feel like it is trying to be something overly polished or complicated. It feels like a local tavern, and it seems very comfortable being exactly that.

For us, that made the visit easy to enjoy. The bartender was awesome, the food was great, the beers were cold, and the vibe had that casual Henderson charm that keeps bringing us back to Water Street.
Sticks Tavern is a safe bet for a casual date night, a game day hangout, or a simple stop for good bar food. It is the kind of place where you can walk in for lunch and quickly understand why someone else might be back again tomorrow.
Next time there is a Golden Knights game on, or next time you are already exploring Water Street and looking for a laid-back local bar, Sticks Tavern is worth adding to your list. For us, it was another reminder that some of the best local experiences are not always planned too far ahead. Sometimes they happen after a farmers market, a short ride, and one more decision to keep exploring.
