Location: Charleston Heights Arts Center

Prepare to be captivated by a hauntingly beautiful fusion of film and opera when Vegas City Opera presents La Belle et la Bête, a mesmerizing masterpiece by renowned modern composer Philip Glass.

This extraordinary production reimagines Jean Cocteau’s iconic 1946 black-and-white film through a bold and innovative operatic lens. Rather than using the film’s original soundtrack, Glass composed an entirely new musical score built around ambient textures and synthesizers.

The original movie plays onscreen while live opera singers perform in perfect synchronization with the actors’ dialogue and movements, creating a deeply immersive, multimedia experience.

The result is a dreamlike blend of cinema, music, and live performance that breathes new emotional life into Cocteau’s surreal imagery.

This production features outstanding local talent, including beloved Vegas City Opera favorite and UNLV professor Jawan Jenkins as the Beast (la Bête) and the captivating mezzo-soprano Courtney Ankerfelt as Belle.

Romantic, mysterious, and just a little eerie, this is not your childhood fairy tale—it’s a sophisticated and unforgettable artistic experience that opera lovers and film fans alike will appreciate.
