Más Por Favor: Heritage Stuffed In A Taco

There’s nothing ordinary about Más Por Favor in Chinatown. Behind its doors, the restaurant transforms into an immersive escape filled with vibrant décor, unforgettable cocktails, and tacos that remind you why food can be the center of every great gathering.

The Walls Hold Secrets

Upon first walking in, we are greeted by a normal restaurant that is expected to serve incredible food and excellent service, but something felt off.

Speaking with our waitress and telling her the secret phrase, we walked through a big wooden door, and a long corridor that made us feel like we were going inside of a mountain. We were no longer in Las Vegas!

Más Por Favor held within its walls a lively environment and a beautifully otherworldly speakeasy atmosphere!

Skeletons across the ceiling, beautiful decor, candles to honor the saints that protect the spirits of humans on Earth, and the best part, amazing food!

Due to it being Tuesday, we were greeted with the Taco Tuesday menu, halving the price of Tacos to $2 each!

We were also greeted with bottomless margaritas for only $20, and even shots to come together with friends for only $3 a round. Now, the time for choosing what this realm offered for us came, and we were prepared to chow down as much as we could.

Nonstop Energy, Nonstop Fun

The speakeasy at Más Por Favor has a lively bar-and-club energy, with dark lighting, rich flooring, and intimate tables setting the mood. A striking Frida Kahlo mural, chandeliers, and a rose wall add artistic flair, while the expansive bar showcases everything from top-shelf liquor to unique specialty cocktails crafted by skilled mixologists.

Depending on the day and the time, Más Por Favor offers tons of social events to come and meet new people, and above all, vibe to some trendy and retro Latino music.

While we were waiting for our food and drinks to come out, a variety of newer and older tracks were playing throughout the speakeasy.

Ranging from Bad Bunny, Maluma, and Ozuna, to Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, and more retro artists such as Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, and El Jefe. If you do happen to be Hispanic, this type of music is the bread and butter of our culture.

If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a great opportunity to listen to electronic music and enjoy the great company of others.

Tacos That Rule the Tuesday Scene

Once settled in, we ordered Más Por Favor’s famous street tacos. They come with 6 different flavors to pick from. Chicken Tinga, Barbacoa, Al Pastor, Carnitas, Ground Beef, and Citrus Grilled Chicken.

Although all were really flavorful and rich in their heritage, the standouts were undoubtedly Barbacoa, Al Pastor, and Carnitas.

Barbacoa is a staple in Mexican cuisine and is known for the fact that, when cooked right, it falls apart and dwells in its juices, exploding in flavor when touching your tongue. Más Por Favor delivers Barbacoa to perfection!

Al Pastor was as juicy and tangy as anyone would expect; meanwhile, the Carnitas was also very soft in texture. We also decided to try one of their cocktails, which they label the Más Cocktails.

The Smoke and Berries is a mixture of strawberry, blueberry, mezcal, chamoy, fresh lemon, and Aperol, which has a flavor exactly like what the name suggests.

Smokey enough to feel the vibe of Más Por Favor in a drink and enjoy the heritage it comes from, but filled enough with berries to ease it out and make sure that it always goes down smooth. Almost as smooth as the atmosphere was while we ate, a party in the back, if you will.

Más Por Favor’s Weekly Party Lineup

Every Wednesday from 6 PM to close, they host “Hump Day,” featuring a signature Humptini, martinis with a twist, and live music. On Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, “Tacos and Touchdowns” combines delicious food with beer specials while NFL games play for sports fans.

Thursdays also bring “College Night Thursdays,” specials on drinks and live music for the college students in town, while Sundays also bring in the new launch of an LGBTQ+ event with “Secret Sundays,” a reverse happy hour, and DJs play all night!

Churros, Chocolate, and Everything In Between

After our meal, we had to try the two desserts that were offered at Más Por Favor. A choco taco with a waffle taco shell, dulce de leche ice cream, dark chocolate dipped on the outside of the shell, as well as sprinkles on top.

As well as the playfully named “Chupa Mi Churro”, which is a churro made in-house with cream cheese filling and a caramel dip on the side to complement the richness and creaminess of the cream cheese inside!

What a sweet and delicious palette it allowed to make this trip even more memorable to Más Por Favor!
