Scoops of Imagination at Salt & Straw

Scoops of Imagination at Salt & Straw

When it comes to dessert spots in Las Vegas, Salt & Straw at the UnCommons stands out as more than just an ice cream shop. It’s playful, bold, and packed with flavors that make you stop mid-bite just to think about what’s happening on your tongue. For couples, it’s the perfect stop—part sweet treat, part conversation starter, and all-around fun.

A Sweet Date Setting at UnCommons

Salt & Straw’s UnCommons location has a vibe that fits perfectly with its surroundings. The UnCommons already feels like a curated little city—there’s patio seating, trendy restaurants, people walking their dogs, and groups gathered around with coffee or cocktails. Salt & Straw adds to that energy with its own unique personality.

The front is sleek but inviting, and the energy inside is buzzing. Couples linger near the counter debating flavors, kids dart around with cones, and staff are constantly encouraging people to try just one more spoonful before deciding.

Outside, the quad area is set up with tables and open space, which makes it easy to grab your scoop and settle into the communal atmosphere.

“The UnCommons is already date-friendly, but sitting outside with ice cream in hand makes it even better. It feels alive without being overwhelming.”

The Flavor Adventure Begins

One of Salt & Straw’s biggest draws is how seriously they take creativity. Every flavor feels like a story, and part of the fun is just walking through them before you even order. Some are classics, while others are so experimental that you almost feel like you need to try them just to believe they exist.

We sampled a few, including the Melon and Prosciutto, which had the sweetness of ripe melon layered with the salty bite of cured meat, and the Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread, which somehow nailed both the cozy baked-good flavor and the refreshing coolness of ice cream. Both felt like bold swings, but they worked.

In the end, we committed to two:

  • Chocolate Gooey Brownie – Rich, decadent, and loaded with chunks of actual brownie, this one was a full dessert on its own. The texture shifted between fudgy bites and creamy spoonfuls, and it hit every chocolate craving at once.
  • Honey Lavender – A lighter, floral balance to the brownie. The lavender was fragrant without being overpowering, and the honey added just enough sweetness. Together, it felt elegant and refreshing.

“You know a spot is doing it right when you start planning what you’ll order next time before the plates are cleared. That’s exactly what happened here—every spoonful had me thinking about which flavor would be next on my list.”

A Lineup That Keeps You Guessing

Salt & Straw doesn’t play it safe, and that’s what makes it special. You’ve got familiar flavors like Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Double Fold Vanilla, and Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. But then you hit the unexpected:

  • Pear and Blue Cheese – Tangy, savory, and sweet all at once. It sounds wild, but it’s one of their most talked-about flavors for a reason.
  • Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero – Creamy, fruity, and spicy in a way you don’t normally associate with ice cream.
  • Arbequina Olive Oil – Silky and rich, almost like a frozen version of fresh olive oil drizzled over bread.
  • Tomato Gelato with Olive Brittle – A summer garden in dessert form, both surprising and refreshing.

Even their seasonal flavors, like Peach Jam Miso Blondies or Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie, push boundaries without losing the joy of just eating something delicious. It makes choosing almost impossible—but that’s part of the fun.

Beyond The Scoops

Salt & Straw isn’t just about cones and cups. The menu is stacked with ways to experience their creations.

  • Flights – Mini scoops lined up side by side, perfect for couples who want to explore without committing to just one or two.
  • Milkshakes – Blended versions of their bold flavors, turning ice cream into a drinkable treat.
  • Ice Cream CakesMulti-layered desserts that make birthdays or celebrations stand out.
  • Pup Cups – Yes, even your dog can get in on the action with a dog-friendly scoop.
  • Toppings – A wide variety of sauces, sprinkles, and drizzles to customize your scoop even further.
