Just an hour’s drive from the heart of Las Vegas, Lee Canyon is nestled within the majestic Mt. Charleston area, offering a mountain escape where fresh pine-scented air, panoramic vistas, and year-round adventure await.

This captivating retreat, surrounded by the stunning Spring Mountains, offers a diverse landscape for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re seeking powdery snow in winter or refreshing trails in summer, Lee Canyon is a natural sanctuary where you can reconnect with nature and rejuvenate your soul.

With a blend of exhilarating winter sports and vibrant summer activities, Lee Canyon invites visitors to embrace the serenity of the mountains.

Ski and Snowboard at Lee Canyon

Lee Canyon is the ultimate winter destination for snow enthusiasts, offering a compact yet vibrant ski resort nestled in the picturesque Spring Mountains. This inviting retreat is a favorite among locals seeking an accessible escape to enjoy powdery snow and thrilling outdoor adventures.

With 28 diverse trails catering to all skill levels, Lee Canyon provides the perfect playground for both beginner and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Supported by 5 lifts, the resort ensures smooth access to its slopes. While it may not be the largest resort in the region, the friendly vibe and welcoming atmosphere draw people back season after season.

“Lee Canyon offers gear rentals on-site, which is super convenient for those without their own equipment. However, I’ve noticed the prices can be a bit steep. My go-to tip? Pick up your rental gear the day before at local shops like Powder & Sun or Gravity Sports for better rates. I also swing by there to get my board waxed! This way, you can hit the slopes first thing in the morning without the hassle of rental lines.”

Regulars love returning to Lee Canyon weekend after weekend, not just for the snow but for the camaraderie and the sense of community that fills the slopes. Riders often share tips at the lift, while the après-ski scene at Bristlecone Bar becomes a hub for stories from the day.

As you ascend the lift, the air becomes crisp, and the valley below stretches into a winter wonderland. Once you’re at the top, the soft crunch of fresh powder under your board signals the start of your ride. You weave between towering pines, the scent of pine sap sharp in the cold air, and occasionally spot deer grazing in the quiet woods.

“In the winter, I make it a point to come up here every weekend. There’s nothing more refreshing than taking that hour drive up and spending the day on a snowboard. Carving through trees and ending up in remote landscape you know hasn’t been touched yet because of the fresh powder.”

Since Mountain Capital Partners took over, Lee Canyon has seen improvements with new ski lifts and expanded trails, enhancing the overall winter experience. The changes have elevated the resort without losing the small, welcoming atmosphere that locals love.

For those seeking a winter adventure, snowshoeing at McWilliams Campground is a fantastic option, available by online reservation only on Saturdays and Sundays. Summer Adventures: Scenic Rides and Mountain Biking

As winter snow melts and vibrant greens return, Lee Canyon becomes a summer playground for thrill-seekers and nature lovers. The slopes that provided exhilarating winter descents now unveil three mountain biking trails, with another on the way, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Rentals are available, along with packages that include full gear and a guide to show you around the stunning terrain.

Scenic chairlift rides during the summer reveal panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Whether you’re a photographer seeking the perfect shot or simply looking to relax and enjoy nature from above, this is an absolute must.

Summer Adventures: Scenic Rides and Mountain Biking
Riding the chairlift in the summer feels like discovering a completely different side of Lee Canyon. It’s quiet and peaceful, and the views are out of this world.

The mountain’s landscape is just as impressive without snow. In fact, many locals say it’s their favorite time to visit. You’ll also find people playing disc golf, attending outdoor yoga sessions, and simply enjoying the cool mountain air.

      Bristlecone Trail: A Year-Round Adventure

The Bristlecone Trail is one of the most popular hikes in Lee Canyon, offering a moderately challenging 6-mile loop that’s perfect for a day hike. Starting at the upper Bristlecone parking area, the trail meanders through dense forests, open meadows, and offers stunning views of the canyon.

In summer, it’s the cool breeze through the trees and the quiet serenity that makes this trail special. In winter, the snow adds an entirely new dynamic, with cross-country skiers and snowshoers taking over the path.

One of the highlights of this trail is spotting the ancient bristlecone pine trees, which are some of the oldest living organisms on Earth.

“My girlfriend and I have hiked the Bristlecone Trail several times. It’s a brutal walk, but you just feel like you’re in a completely different world—far removed from the heat and noise of Las Vegas.”

If you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife. It’s not uncommon to see mule deer grazing in the meadows or hawks soaring overhead.

      Disc Golf Meets Mountain Vibes

For a unique outdoor activity, Lee Canyon offers a scenic disc golf course. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends or family, throwing discs through mountain terrain while enjoying the fresh air and views.

The course itself is challenging, with its elevation changes and obstacles. It’s a mix of open spaces and wooded areas, providing a balanced difficulty for both beginners and more experienced players.

“If you’re looking for a fun, relaxed activity, disc golf at Lee Canyon is a must. Plus, the views from the course are unbeatable.”

What sets this course apart is the setting—there aren’t many places where you can play a round of disc golf while surrounded by towering pines and sweeping mountain vistas.

Dining and Relaxing Amidst the Pines at Lee Canyon

Bristlecone Bar: The Perfect Spot to Unwind

Lee Canyon offers more than just outdoor sports—its dining options are equally enticing. My favorite has to be The Bristlecone Bar, which serves up refreshing beers and drinks in the winter and a delightful menu of food and beverages in the summer.

The Bristlecone is the perfect place to unwind after a day of skiing, hiking, or simply enjoying a ride up the mountain. With its cozy interior and a great selection of craft beers and cocktails, it’s a popular spot to relax with friends and soak in the mountain ambiance.

Whether you’ve spent the day on the slopes or exploring the trails, make sure to stop by the Bristlecone Bar for a relaxing break right here in our own backyard.

Brewin’ Burro Café: Quick Bites and Local Coffee

The Brewin’ Burro Café is the perfect spot to grab a coffee or a snack before hitting the trails. Locally sourced ingredients give the menu a fresh and unique twist, from hearty sandwiches to homemade pastries.

“About halfway through my snowboarding days, I come down to The Burro for a warm drink and an energy bar, but after a long day on the slopes, there’s nothing better than heading to the Bristlecone Bar for a drink. It’s the best way to wrap up a day in the mountains.”

Bighorn Grill: Dining with a View

On weekends, the Bighorn Grill opens its doors, serving up hearty meals like burgers and flatbreads, making it easy to refuel without leaving the canyon. This spot is particularly family-friendly, often buzzing with visitors and children enjoying their meals together.

With a large outdoor patio that offers stunning mountainside views, the Bighorn Grill provides a perfect backdrop for a relaxed dining experience. Families can savor their meals while taking in the beauty of Lee Canyon, creating memorable moments amid nature.

      Wildlife Spotting & Nature Walks

One of the quieter joys of visiting Lee Canyon is the opportunity to spot local wildlife. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply wandering through the area, there’s a good chance you’ll see some of the local fauna.

Mule deer are commonly spotted grazing near the trails, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a fox darting through the underbrush. You may also spot the occasional wild horse roaming the area, adding to the charm of this natural retreat.

In the skies above, birds of prey, like hawks and the occasional eagle, can often be seen circling the canyon, taking advantage of the mountain’s updrafts.

“One of my favorite things about Lee Canyon is how connected you feel to nature. It’s not uncommon to be hiking and suddenly spot a deer or hawk cautiously soaring overhead, keenly surveying the landscape.”

The area is also home to various smaller critters like squirrels, chipmunks, and a variety of bird species, making it a great spot for casual wildlife observation.

During summer, Lee Canyon comes alive with outdoor concerts and festivals. These lively events bring the community together, offering an energetic vibe that pairs perfectly with the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding mountains.

“There’s something surreal about listening to live music while surrounded by the mountains. It’s an experience that feels both intimate and epic at the same time.”

Festivals at Lee Canyon often feature a variety of food trucks, craft beer tastings, and lawn games, making it a joyful all-ages celebration of outdoor recreation and music. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or low-profile portable chairs to enjoy the festivities comfortably.
