East Las Vegas has changed a lot over the years, but some places stay the same in the best ways. Tacos Los Toritos has kept its recipes, its pace, and its personality since 1989. The food takes its time, the flavors go deep, and the people behind the counter still know your name if you’ve been more than once.
During a quick visit to my parents’ house, I decided to stop by the Nellis and Washington location for some delicious tacos!
A Family Legacy Built on Simple, Honest & Flavorful Food
Tacos Los Toritos has been family-owned and operated since 1989. Over the years, it’s become part of the East Las Vegas rhythm. It’s not just a place to eat but a familiar face in the community. Generations of the same family still run the kitchen and greet regulars by name.
What started as a small taquería has grown into something with deeper roots. You can taste the years of tradition in every bite. Every detail feels like it was passed down with care.
Tacos Los Toritos has four locations across the Las Vegas Valley, but their first restaurant on Twain & Swenson still stands today. The owners focus on the Twain & Swenson location while the other locations are ran by trusted family partners.
To me, the location on Nellis & Washington has some of the best tacos that the East Side has to offer. If you want delicious street-style tacos, this spot if for you!
This restaurant has been a favorite of mine when I grew up in the East Las Vegas. While I live in Henderson now, I still come back to get a bite of Toritos whenever I’m back in my old neighborhood!
From the music in the background to the way the beans are seasoned. It all gives the place a slow, dependable charm. That history spills right into the heart of the menu. The restaurant specializes in breakfast platters, combination plates and simple but delicious Mexican food.
Breakfast Platters That Stick With You All Day
The breakfast platters are a local favorite for good reason. They come loaded with Mexican rice, creamy beans with cheese, and a golden hashbrown. The huevos con machaca (scrambled eggs with shredded beef) is savory and filling without being heavy.
The huevos con jamón (eggs with ham) is salty, simple, and full of comfort. Their breakfast burrito is packed with eggs, meat, and potatoes, rolled just tight enough to hold it together. The huevos con chorizo (eggs with spicy sausage) delivers a bold, smoky kick. The caldo de res (beef soup) is a slow-cooked broth filled with tender chunks of beef and vegetables.
And the quesadillas frito de maíz (fried corn quesadillas) are crispy on the outside and gooey inside. Breakfast here tastes like something you’d wake up to in a Mexican household.
As the clock moves past breakfast, the real star of the show starts to take the stage in the menu.
Combo Plates Are Where Everything Comes Together
The meat here is treated with the same respect as the recipes. Every taco is built on a solid foundation of marinade. Whether it’s al pastor, carne asada, or chicken, the flavor is always layered and balanced.
The marinade has that unmistakable street taco taste. But instead of a cart on the corner, you’re sitting at a table. The meat is juicy, light, and seasoned to perfection without drowning in sauce. This sets the perfect stage for their combination plates.
Each combination plate is a celebration of Mexican comfort food. You get three sides and two main items of your choice. The sides always include rice, beans with cheese, and a small salad with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and guacamole.
The burrito y taco plate balances big flavor with crunch. The Create Your Own Burrito special plate gives you full control, no questions asked.
The burrito y taco plate is my personal favorite since it’s very filling and they never skimp on the portions or quality.
The 2 hard shell or soft tortilla tacos plate hits every texture you want. The taquitos dorados plate (crispy rolled tacos) snaps and melts in your mouth. The quesadilla y taco plate are both creamy and crispy. The sope y taco plate gives you a thick base and a street-style bite.
The fillete de pescado plate (grilled fish filet) is a lighter option without losing flavor. The tostada de ceviche plate (seafood tostada) is bright and fresh with just the right amount of lime. The tacos de pescado plate (fish tacos) are soft, flaky, and never overdone.
If you want to understand why people keep coming back, try one of these combos first. One of the key reasons the food here hits so well is what’s tucked inside every taco.
There’s a confidence to how the food is cooked, and you feel it with every bite. Once the tacos hit the table, the drinks come right behind.
Aguas Frescas That Taste Like Summer All Year Long
Every day, they make their aguas frescas (fresh fruit drinks) by hand. The flavors rotate but always stay true to the fruit. The pepino (cucumber) is cool and crisp. The strawberry is sweet and familiar. The banana is creamy with a tropical twist.
The horchata is smooth and nutty with cinnamon. The tamarindo is tangy and earthy. The Jamaica (hibiscus) is tart and deep red, always refreshing. The melón (cantaloupe) and sandía (watermelon) are light and sweet, never artificial.
These drinks aren’t syrupy or heavy. They’re clean and cold, the perfect match to the warmth of the food. When you’re done, you feel full, not stuffed. And ready to come back again soon.
