Old Boulder City has a way of slowing time. The sidewalks stay sunlit, the traffic hums low, and the brewpub on Arizona Street starts its day with the smell of malt and a light breeze drifting through the arches. That calm rhythm sets the tone for a visit to Boulder Dam Brewing Co., a local favorite where cold beer, conversation, and heritage come together naturally.
I stopped by with Motty, fellow Everyday.Vegas writer, after a morning ride through the canyon. The taproom had just opened, and the stainless tanks inside caught the light through wide windows. A few early guests were already staking out patio tables, taking in the sunshine that makes this small-town corner of Southern Nevada feel timeless.
A Brewpub Rooted in History
The brewery sits quietly along Arizona Street in a courtyard framed by palms and barrels, just minutes from the Hoover Dam that inspired its name. Inside, a mural pays tribute to the dam builders who gave the town its identity, while rows of growlers line the windowsills like a mini-museum of Nevada brewing. Behind the bar, gleaming fermenters stand on display, filling the air with the unmistakable scent of yeast and malt.
Outside, the patio feels designed for lazy afternoons. Umbrellas provide just enough shade, and the soft murmur of conversation rolls through like background music. The staff move at a comfortable pace, offering samples and answering questions without rush. It’s the kind of place that welcomes you without needing to announce itself.
The Flight
The flight board arrived on brushed metal, six small pours arranged from bright and citrusy to bold and bitter. The sequence felt deliberate—a complete snapshot of Boulder Dam Brewing’s range, from traditional wheat styles to modern IPA craftsmanship.
Bypass Belgian White
The Bypass Belgian White opened the tasting with subtle elegance. Brewed with white wheat malt, coriander, and orange peel, it had a smooth texture and a refreshing finish. At 4.9% ABV and 18 IBU, it’s balanced and approachable.

The orange slice typically served with it isn’t just for show—it adds a touch of citrus brightness that ties everything together. Light, aromatic, and endlessly drinkable, it’s the kind of beer that makes long afternoons feel shorter.
“There’s a certain honesty to this kind of Belgian White. It’s not trying to impress—it’s just perfect at what it does. Refreshing, soft, and made for sunshine.”
Powder Monkey Pilsner
The Powder Monkey Pilsner brought a crisp reset. Named after the dam workers who packed explosives, it’s flavorful without heaviness. Pilsen and Carapils malts build a light, malty body, while Northern Brewer, Tettnanger, and Styrian Goldings hops bring gentle floral tones. At 4.7% ABV and 31 IBU, it feels clean and classic—sharp enough to refresh, soft enough to sip on repeat. It’s the kind of beer that fits any hour of the day.
High Scaler Pale Ale
The High Scaler Pale Ale represents the heart of the brewery—balanced, handcrafted, and quietly bold. Brewed with Perle, Summit, Chinook, and Cascade hops, it layers pine, citrus, and malt with precision. The name honors the high-scalers who hung from ropes to carve the canyon walls, and this beer matches that bravery with flavor. At 5.5% ABV and 32 IBU, it sits right between easygoing and adventurous, the kind of pale ale that keeps you coming back to it.
“The High Scaler is where the flight starts to take shape—balanced, bright, and full of life. It’s the beer that quietly carries the whole experience forward.”

Hell’s Hole Hefeweizen
The Hell’s Hole Hefeweizen delivered the soft comfort of a Bavarian classic. A cloudy pour with hints of banana and clove from its German yeast, it’s built on 2-row brewers and white wheat malts with hops like Herschbrucker, Perle, and Spalt to give just the right lift. At 4.8% ABV and 16 IBU, it’s smooth and silky—an all-weather beer that tastes like the best version of familiar tradition.
Year 16 BC IPA
The Year 16 BC IPA showed the brewery’s modern side. Brewed for its sixteenth anniversary, it’s a Cold IPA—crisp and clear, brewed at lower temperatures for a lighter body that lets the hops shine. Centennial, Azacca, and Cascade drive it with tropical fruit, grapefruit, and floral tones. At 6.1% ABV and 55 IBU, it’s a showcase of precision, the kind of IPA that proves restraint can still feel bold.
“The Year 16 BC IPA walks the line between innovation and respect for tradition. It’s clean, confident, and one of those beers that speaks for the whole brewery.”
IPA(lot)
The last pour, IPA(lot), did exactly what its name promises. It’s a love letter to hops—big, resinous, and aromatic. Notes of pine, grapefruit, and earthiness unfold from start to finish. It’s assertive without going overboard, standing as the perfect closer to the lineup. After the subtler Cold IPA, this one hits with confidence and a lingering edge that keeps the palate awake.
“IPA(lot) is the curtain call—the kind of beer that reminds you why people fall in love with hops in the first place. Every sip feels like a toast to the craft.”

The Food That Seals the Experience
We paired the flight with the Beer Battered Fish ‘n Chips, battered in their Electric Blonde Ale and served with fries, slaw, and lemon-caper pickle mayo. The coating was crisp, the fish flaky, and the portion big enough to split without regret.
Every beer found its match. The Bypass Belgian White paired perfectly with the slaw’s citrus, the Pilsner cut through the fried batter, and the Cold IPA made dessert taste brighter. It’s a menu made to harmonize with the brews rather than compete with them, and that makes all the difference.
A Taste of Boulder City
Boulder City itself gives the brewery its magic. The streets are lined with antique shops and historic architecture, but the vibe stays grounded. People come here after bike rides, lake trips, or just to escape the pace of Las Vegas. Boulder Dam Brewing Co. captures that perfectly—a space where heritage meets hospitality without pretense.

The bar inside glows under the mural, the tanks hum quietly, and the patio feels alive but calm. Everything about it says this is a brewery built for people, not trends. The kind of place that feels honest because it is.
“Boulder Dam Brewing Co. feels like a chapter of Boulder City’s story—rooted in craftsmanship, carried by the community, and shared one flight at a time. You don’t come here for flash. You come because it feels right.”
A Place Worth Returning To
By the time the patio started to fill and the morning turned into afternoon, it was clear that Boulder Dam Brewing Co. isn’t just a stop—it’s a destination. The High Scaler Pale Ale stands out for balance, the Year 16 BC IPA for clarity, and the Bypass Belgian White for pure refreshment. Every pour feels intentional, every detail tied back to the spirit of the town.
Come early, grab a seat under the umbrellas, order the flight, and let the day slow down. You’ll leave with new favorites, a little sun on your face, and the kind of contentment that only small-town breweries seem to master.
