Lone Mountain Park & Equestrian Trail: Horses, Playgrounds & More

There is more to Lone Mountain Park in Las Vegas than you might expect from a neighborhood park. Set against the unmistakable silhouette of Lone Mountain in the northwest valley, the park combines playgrounds, sports courts, dog areas, picnic spaces, walking paths, and one feature that immediately sets it apart: its equestrian facilities.

The Lone Mountain Equestrian Trail Park area gives local riders space to work with their horses while families can explore the surrounding recreation areas, watch horses pass by, or simply enjoy an afternoon outside. It is one of those northwest Las Vegas parks where different kinds of outdoor activities come together in one place.

Horseback Riding at Lone Mountain Park

The equestrian facilities are the signature feature here. Clark County lists a covered practice arena and two round riding pens, giving horse owners dedicated spaces for riding and training.

During our visit, the equestrian side of the park felt completely different from a typical Las Vegas neighborhood park. Seeing horses and riders using the grounds with Lone Mountain rising behind them gives the area a distinctly western atmosphere.

The riding areas are intended for people bringing their own horses rather than commercial horseback-riding rentals, so families coming only to explore should think of the horses as part of the experience rather than an attraction offering rides.

Trails Around Lone Mountain

The trails are another reason to spend time here. Paths around the park offer wide desert views and a close-up look at Lone Mountain, with opportunities for walking, jogging, and equestrian use.

It is especially fun for kids when a horse passes nearby. Just remember that this is a shared outdoor space: give horses and riders plenty of room and follow any posted trail rules.

Playgrounds and the Horse-Themed Play Area

Lone Mountain Park is not just for riders. Clark County also lists multiple playground areas, including a distinctive log-and-horse-themed play area that fits perfectly with the equestrian setting.

That combination makes the park easy to enjoy even when nobody in your family owns a horse. Kids can head for the playground while parents take in the mountain views, and the possibility of seeing horses nearby adds something unusual to an otherwise relaxed park visit.

Dog owners have their own reason to visit. During our visit, we found separate designated dog areas for different-sized dogs, giving pups room to run while keeping them separated by size.

Dogs should remain leashed while outside designated off-leash areas, and Clark County park rules require pets to remain under their handler’s control.

Pickleball, Tennis and Basketball

Lone Mountain Park also works surprisingly well for anyone looking for a more active outing. Clark County lists two pickleball courts, basketball courts, and tennis courts among the park’s recreation amenities.

That variety makes the park useful for more than a quick playground stop. You can walk the trails, bring a basketball or racket, exercise the dog, spend time at the playground, or simply find a spot to enjoy the northwest valley scenery.

Make It a Northwest Las Vegas Day

Lone Mountain Park is also in a good part of town for turning a park visit into a longer family outing. The Las Vegas Farm combines farm animals and a local market atmosphere, while Gilcrease Orchard is another northwest favorite for seasonal picking and outdoor family fun.
