Try Pioneer Skills and Old-Fashioned Chores
Visitors can get a feel for daily pioneer life through activities such as churning butter and making homemade soap. These hands-on demonstrations show the kind of work that once went into tasks that are much easier today.
The event also includes opportunities to pan for treasure, practice lasso skills, and learn basic knots. The activities are designed to be approachable for families while giving kids and adults a more active way to learn about Nevada’s early settlers.
Square Dancing and Living History

Pioneer Day is an outdoor event, and Nevada State Parks recommends bringing a picnic lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and shade. The park sits at a higher elevation than much of the Las Vegas Valley, so temperatures can also feel noticeably cooler.
Pets are allowed at the event, but dogs and other pets must follow the park’s normal leash rules. Registration is not required, so visitors can arrive during the event window without reserving a spot in advance.
Spring Mountain Ranch can become busy during special events and weekends, and the park may temporarily close its entrance when it reaches capacity. Arriving earlier in the day can make parking and entry easier.
Tickets and Registration
No event registration is required. Pioneer Day is included with the regular Spring Mountain Ranch State Park entrance fee, which is $10 per Nevada vehicle and $15 per non-Nevada vehicle. Annual Nevada State Parks passes are also accepted.
