NeNe Japanese Contemporary Bistro: A Corner Sushi Place You Never Knew You Needed

inside NeNe Japanese Contemporary Bistro

Sometimes, great food is tucked away in the most unexpected spots, and NeNe Japanese Contemporary Bistro fits that description perfectly.

Situated in a busy commerce area dotted with kid-friendly venues like Chuck E. Cheese, Flip N Out Extreme, and even Rise and Shine, NeNe might appear to be just another neighborhood sushi joint at first glance.

Yet, once you step inside, you realize it’s a restaurant that takes its craft seriously—offering an authentic slice of Japanese culinary tradition!

A Place For Glow & Warmth

The restaurant is modest in size, featuring about ten tables that create a warm and intimate vibe.

Soft lighting and tasteful décor immediately make you feel at home, while subtle touches of Japanese art remind you that you’re stepping into a distinctly authentic dining space.

It’s the kind of place where conversation flows naturally, whether you’re catching up with friends or simply enjoying a moment of tranquility after a long day.

The friendly staff greets you promptly, guiding you to your seat and ensuring you’re comfortable before you even glance at the menu.

Ever since we started writing about local eateries, we’ve kept one guiding principle in mind: we are not food critics by trade.
We simply share our experiences in an honest way, without any influential or paid motivations.
We believe in spotlighting local places that genuinely resonate with us.

Edamame and Garlic Edamame

To kick off our meal, we opted for both the Edamame and Garlic Edamame.

The classic salted edamame arrived warm, with just the right sprinkle of salt to enhance its natural sweetness.

Meanwhile, the garlic edamame featured a fragrant twist, bathed in roasted garlic that offered a gentle, savory punch.

It was a perfect start that sparked our appetites and set the stage for the rest of the meal.

Surprising Sides: Fish Eggs

One of the delights—and surprises—came courtesy of my daughter, who decided she wanted fish eggs (often referred to as “masago” or “tobiko”) just out of sheer curiosity.

Truth be told, I never imagined she would take to them, but she ended up loving their unique texture and light, briny flavor.

Seeing her expand her palate and enjoy something so distinctive reminded me that sushi is truly an adventure in taste and texture for everyone, no matter how young.

The Rolls That Won Us Over

When we visit sushi places, we like to explore a variety of rolls, and NeNe provided plenty of options.

One key difference that sets this bistro apart is its adherence to traditional Japanese techniques: each roll is served inside-out, showcasing the fresh ingredients wrapped in that signature layer of delicate rice.

Japanese Lasagna Roll

The Japanese Lasagna Roll is a local favorite. It often consists of baked seafood (commonly crab) and cream cheese, topped with a light drizzle of mayo or special sauce.

At NeNe, it arrived perfectly warm, slightly crispy on the edges, and oh-so-creamy on the inside. If you enjoy rich, comforting flavors blended with the finesse of sushi, this roll is a must-try.

Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna Roll

Spicy tuna is a staple in sushi dining, but NeNe takes it up a notch with a Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna rendition.

Small squares of fried rice form a crunchy base for the spicy tuna mixture on top.

The contrast between the crispy rice and the soft, flavorful tuna is incredibly satisfying.

Add a dab of wasabi or a dip in soy sauce to elevate it even more.

Salmon Roll

A Salmon Roll is a timeless classic, and here it shines with the freshness of the fish.

The delicate layers of salmon nearly melt in your mouth, balanced by the subtle tang of the sushi rice.

Sometimes, simplicity is the best measure of quality, and this roll proves that if the ingredients are top-notch, you don’t need fancy sauces or toppings.

Rainbow Roll

Vibrant and eye-catching, the Rainbow Roll features layers of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and avocado draped over a California roll base.

It’s a great way to sample multiple types of fish in one go.

Each bite offers a mix of textures and flavors that highlight why this roll has become such a beloved staple on sushi menus everywhere.

California Roll for the Little One

For our youngest diner, the traditional California Roll was just right.

It features crab (often imitation), cucumber, and avocado, all rolled in sushi rice and sesame seeds.

It’s a mild, crowd-pleasing choice that suits anyone dipping their toes into sushi for the first time—especially kids who might be a bit wary of raw fish.

NeNe Deliver Quality Over Quantity

Unlike many all-you-can-eat sushi spots around Las Vegas, NeNe offers a focused à la carte menu.

They prioritize quality ingredients and the meticulous art of sushi-making.

While this might make the prices slightly higher than the buffet-style options, you’re also paying for the assurance that each roll is crafted carefully by skilled hands, using fresh fish and thoughtfully sourced components.

You’ll find it here if you’re searching for a sushi fix without the AYCE hustle or want an intimate dinner full of authentic, well-prepared rolls.

The extra few dollars feel worth it when you realize just how memorable the flavors can be.

Small Place Serving Big Bites

NeNe Japanese Contemporary Bistro promises an intimate, high-quality sushi experience that you might not expect to find in a busy commercial area.

The small interior, the warm service, and the consistently excellent dishes make it stand out among the many sushi choices throughout the city.

Whether you’re a seasoned sushi lover or bringing little ones for their first taste, you’ll appreciate the authenticity and attention to detail—right down to the way each roll is plated and served.
