Growing up in Vegas and in a Hispanic household, we watched many culturally important shows that meant so much to our upbringing. Mexican culture icons like Cantinflas, Roberto Gomez Bolaños, and La India Maria gave laughs to countless families.
One of the mentioned icons, Roberto Gomez Bolaños, created a TV show that would stick with me for years. That show is called El Chavo Del 8, a show that made me laugh over every corner and joke being told.
But best believe when I heard of La Vecindad, a restaurant themed after this iconic show, I had to visit.
Taste of Television: Decor that Celebrates El Chavo Del 8
“La Vecindad” has been around since 2016 and gets its name from two different aspects of Mexican culture. The first is El Chavo Del 8.
The second is to honor the Mexican tradition of togetherness, especially during meals. In Hispanic culture, any meal entails a big responsibility, a sign of bonding, and a show of respect, love, and admiration.

“La Vecindad” encapsulates this feeling from the moment you walk in. The vibrant colors and flavors, coordinated in the language of harmony, perfectly capture the moment of togetherness.
At the entrance, a classic Volkswagen Beetle adds a quirky touch, while a life-size statue of El Chavo Del 8 greets visitors with his iconic green trapper hat.

Inside, colorful banners reminiscent of festive Mexican restaurants adorn the ceiling, creating an inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is filled with memorabilia from the show, including vintage posters of Don Ramón and Doña Florinda, and even costume replicas used from the show!
This lively decor celebrates the beloved series, making every visit feel like a delightful trip down memory lane.
“La Vecindad” definitely helped us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The references and details we were hoping to see were on full display, and was it amazing!
Clever Callbacks At Your Fingertips
The references La Vecindad showcases to both the show and Mexican culture extend to the menu as well. When you open the menu, you may find some dishes or drinks with iconic names.
A tiny shot of tequila is called a “Chiquitolina,” which is a pill at El Chapulin Colorado, one of Roberto Gomez Bolaños’s characters.

Other dishes use this type of playful gimmick, like “La Torta Del Chavo,” which is a bolillo (roll of bread) with ham, cheese, avocado, onions, and jalapeños.
Also available is “Kiko’s Plate,” which includes a choice between grilled steak or grilled chicken with shrimp and a special house sauce, along with beans, avocados, salad, and chile.
In addition, every dish and drink is brought on top of this “ambulance” cart, which also has sirens alerting others to make way for the food! Families were everywhere, and friends were simply having laughs and reminiscing about their own stories of the past.
The staff also checked in a lot to ensure we were not being ignored and were a part of the family they had created inside. Both of us decided on a starter of “Queso Fundido” with chorizo, a very popular dish in Toluca, Mexico.

Although we had this dish before, we were very surprised when we got the dish delivered because the server set the plate on fire—making the cheese melt even more and adding a distinct quality to ordering the dish. It made for such a surprise!
We kept pointing out details to each other that we appreciated about the culture we grew up with. I ordered the signature “Torta Del Chavo,” while my best friend got the Chorizo Burrito, another specialty that is an ode to the roots of Toluca.

With every bite we kept getting into, the flavors only kept relishing in our mouths. This made the experience much more enriching and memorable as we kept taking in every bite and moment of the night.
One of the highlights of the dining experience was the impressive variety of desserts available.
From creamy, indulgent ice cream in unique flavors to handcrafted pastries and other sweet treats, each option offered its own special twist.
These delightful desserts perfectly complemented the savory dishes, ensuring that every last bite of the night was just as memorable as the first.
