Pappalecco Brings a Clean, Italian Café Feel Near UNLV

Pappalecco UNLV

Pappalecco is one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you, and that’s exactly why it works.

Sitting right off Maryland Parkway near UNLV, it blends into the area at first glance. But once you step inside, it shifts. The noise drops, the space opens up, and suddenly it feels less like a quick stop and more like somewhere you might actually hang out for a bit.

It’s not oversized. It’s not loud. It just feels… balanced.

I went with Destony, kept it simple, and that ended up being the right move.

A Space That Feels Thought Out

The design is the first thing that sticks with you.

It’s modern, but not cold. There’s a mix of wood textures, patterned tile flooring, and soft lighting from woven hanging fixtures that warm up the entire room. The greenery on the walls gives it some life without making it feel overdesigned, and the layout is open enough to breathe.

You’ve got smaller two-top tables, some window seating, and a few spots that feel a little more tucked away if you want to sit longer. Nothing feels cramped, but nothing feels empty either.

“The croissant didn’t feel like something rushed out. It had that soft, flaky texture where it kind of pulls apart instead of crumbling, and once you get into the Nutella with the strawberries and banana, it just turns into a full dessert more than anything else.”

That’s what stood out the most. Especially being this close to campus, it could have easily leaned chaotic, but it doesn’t.

Even during a steady flow of customers, it holds that calm feeling. People come in, order, sit down, and the energy just stays consistent.

Coffee That Keeps It Simple

Pappalecco leans into Italian-style espresso drinks, and it shows in how straightforward the menu is.

No overloaded syrups, no complicated builds, no gimmicks. Just the classics done clean.

I went with a hot Americano with creamer. It came out smooth and balanced, with enough strength to wake you up without hitting that bitter edge.

It’s the kind of coffee you don’t have to think about. You just drink it.

Destony got the Marocchino with oat milk, which is one of the more recognizable Italian drinks on the menu. Espresso layered with chocolate and milk foam, slightly sweet but still grounded.

“The coffee was simple, but in a good way. It wasn’t overly bitter or trying too hard, just smooth and easy to drink, especially with everything else we had on the table.”

That’s what makes it work. It’s not trying to be overly sweet, just enough to change the experience.

The Marocchino with oat milk layers espresso and chocolate into a richer drink, giving it a slightly indulgent feel without being overly heavy.

Looking around, you see a mix of drinks on tables. Cappuccinos, iced coffees, and a few people with the blended drinks that stand out more visually.

It’s clear this place is built around coffee first, not as an afterthought.

Croissants That Actually Feel Like the Focus

The pastry case pulls you in right away. Not because it’s packed, but because everything in it looks intentional.

You’re not just grabbing something out of convenience. You’re actually choosing.

We both went with croissants, and that’s where things started to stand out more.

I got the ham and cheese croissant. The outside had that light crisp, while the inside stayed soft and layered. The cheese melted into the bread without making it greasy, and the ham didn’t overpower it.

The ham and cheese croissant keeps things simple but hits the mark, with warm, melted cheese layered into a buttery, flaky pastry that comes out soft with just a slight crisp on the outside.

It’s simple, but the texture carries it.

Destony went with the Fresh Fruit Croissant, layered with Nutella, sliced strawberries, and banana. It had that same flaky texture, but leaned more into dessert without feeling too heavy.

“You can tell right away it’s not trying to be over the top. It’s clean, relaxed, and feels like a place you can come back to without thinking about it too much.”

And that’s accurate. They’re not just there to fill space on the menu.

The Fresh Fruit Croissant is filled with Nutella, strawberries, and banana, combining flaky pastry with a rich, sweet filling that leans more toward dessert than breakfast.

There are multiple variations too, both savory and sweet. You can tell they put real focus into this part of the menu instead of treating it like a side option.

Gelato That Deserves Its Own Moment

The gelato case is impossible to ignore once you notice it.

Bright colors, clean presentation, and rows of flavors that look fresh instead of overly processed. It’s not just there for show. It’s a core part of what they do.

Even if you don’t order it right away, it stays in the back of your mind the entire time you’re there.

Flavors range from classic options like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry to more distinct picks like pistachio, tiramisu, Nutella, and seasonal rotations. The texture looks dense but smooth, which is exactly what you want from gelato.

It’s not airy like ice cream. It looks rich, slow-churned, and built to hold flavor.

What stands out is how it connects with the rest of the menu.

The menu stretches across the wall with sections for espresso, gelato, panini, and more, giving you a full range of options whether you’re coming in for coffee or a full bite.

The caffè freddo drinks blend espresso with gelato, which gives you something in between a dessert and a drink. It’s one of those items you don’t expect to order, but once you see it, it makes sense.

You can come in for coffee, notice the gelato, and suddenly your plan changes.

“You can tell right away it’s not trying to be over the top. It’s clean, relaxed, and feels like a place you can come back to without thinking about it too much.”

Same. It feels like something worth coming back specifically for, not just adding on at the end.

More Than Just a Coffee Stop

Even though coffee, pastries, and gelato are the main draw, the menu goes further than that.

The pastry case at Pappalecco is one of the first things that pulls you in, lined with neatly plated Italian desserts ranging from layered cakes to cookies and smaller pastries, all presented in a way that makes it hard to choose just one.

Pappalecco covers a full range of light café options, including:

  • Espresso drinks – classic and specialty
  • Gelato – fresh and rotating flavors
  • Caffè freddo – blended espresso drinks with gelato
  • Panini – Italian-style sandwiches
  • Salads – lighter, customizable options
  • Toasts – simple, clean builds
  • Wine – for a slower, sit-down feel

It gives the place range.

You can stop in for a quick coffee, or you can actually build out a full light meal without it feeling forced.

It doesn’t try to be a full restaurant, but it gives you enough options to stay longer if you want.

Right Where It Makes Sense

Being near UNLV gives it constant traffic, but it doesn’t feel built only for students.

That’s what makes it work.

It feels like a neighborhood café that just happens to sit next to a campus instead of being defined by it.

From the outside, Pappalecco stands out with its clean storefront and bold red framing, giving it a modern Italian café feel that fits right into the area near UNLV.

You get a mix of people coming in. Some grabbing coffee to go, others sitting inside.

The Kind of Spot You Rotate Into Your Week

Some places feel like a one-time visit. You check them out, it’s cool, and you move on.

Pappalecco doesn’t feel like that.

It feels like something you end up adding into your routine without thinking about it.

Morning coffee before work. Quick bite during the day. Somewhere to sit when you want something quieter than the usual spots.

“Once you actually look at the gelato, that’s when it stands out. The texture looks different, more dense and real, not overly whipped or artificial, and the flavors feel like they’re meant to be noticed instead of just sweet.”

Same.

It’s not trying to compete with the biggest or trendiest cafés in Vegas. It just focuses on doing the basics really well in a space that actually feels good to be in.

And honestly, that’s what makes it stand out more than anything else.
