Shawarma Vegas – A Middle Eastern Classic in the Heart of Las Vegas

Assortment of fresh salads, tahini, and pita bread served at Shawarma Vegas.

This past Wednesday, I decided to treat the Everyday.Vegas team to lunch — which, as expected, turned into a fifteen-minute debate over where we should go.

Thankfully, our long-standing rule still applies: whoever pays picks the place. So, Shawarma Vegas it was.

For anyone who has never experienced shawarma — or Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine in general — consider this your sign. It’s time. And Shawarma Vegas is the perfect place to start.

The restaurant has been a Las Vegas staple for over a decade. Ownership has shifted through the years, but today’s owner brings a lifetime of experience in hospitality and a whole lot of personality to the table.

Personally, whenever I’m craving hummus, shawarma, or a perfect kabob, this is my go-to spot.

There’s nothing flashy here. No dramatic décor, no oversized art installations, nothing meant to impress you visually.

Instead, it’s simple people making simple food — really good simple food — and the flavors speak louder than any design ever could.

Warm welcomes & a meal that starts before you order

If you’ve been to Shawarma Vegas before, you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say the owner, Guy, will probably greet you at the door before you even settle in.

To some, it may feel a bit surprising — almost intrusive — but the minute you realize he’s genuinely happy you’re there, the tone shifts entirely.

It’s Middle Eastern hospitality at its finest: welcoming, warm, and impossible not to appreciate.

And then comes the signature move: the complimentary welcome platter. A traditional spread that includes salads, tahini, hummus, warm pita, and assorted bites meant to set the mood for what’s to come.

It’s one of those rituals you come to expect — and look forward to.

A lentil soup moment we will never forget

Before we even placed our order, the team was handed small cups of lentil soup — another Middle Eastern staple.

The funny part? Someone decided to “cheers” as if we were taking a round of tequila shots.

That first sip resulted in synchronized raised eyebrows and instant smiles across the entire table. It was priceless.

Even better, it made Yahor — who bravely admitted he wasn’t a big fan of Middle Eastern food due to a few bad past experiences — start to rethink everything.

When we told Guy about Yahor’s confession, he took it personally. In his words, he was going to “fix this today.” Challenge accepted.

What we ordered

We ordered a mix of classics, plus something kid-friendly for Yahor (don’t worry, he owned it).

Shawarma Wrap (Laffa)

Warm laffa stuffed with turkey shawarma, tahini, salad, and house pickles

The laffa wrap is the star of the show: tender shawarma shaved straight off the rotating spit, wrapped in warm, chewy laffa bread.

The seasoning hits that perfect balance — savory, spiced, but not spicy — and the tahini brings everything together. It’s messy, generous, and exactly what a shawarma wrap should be.

Falafel Hummus Plate

Crispy falafel over creamy hummus with grilled eggplant

This plate is vegetarian comfort food. The falafel balls are crunchy on the outside and soft inside, served on top of a smooth hummus base with a drizzle of tahini.

The fried eggplant in the center elevates everything — warm, silky, and rich in flavor.

Shawarma Hummus Plate

Your choice of beef or turkey shawarma over hummus and tahini

Served as a deconstructed meal, this plate is perfect for those who love to mix bites.

The parsley adds freshness, the hummus adds creaminess, and the shawarma provides that smoky, spiced, slow-cooked depth that Middle Eastern food is known for.

Chicken Thighs (Pargiot)

Grilled chicken thighs served with fries

This was Yahor’s dish — the unofficial “kids meal” of Middle Eastern cuisine — and he loved every bite.

The pargiot are cooked over an open flame, giving them a charred exterior while staying juicy inside. Simple, classic, and always reliable.

Glatt Kosher quality makes a difference

Shawarma Vegas is a Glatt Kosher restaurant, which means they use the highest-level kosher meat available. Beyond the religious aspect, this also means strict quality standards from sourcing to preparation. And you taste it.

One thing we all noticed: after eating a massive meal, none of us felt heavy. Anyone who’s ever walked out of a big lunch ready for a nap knows that feeling — but here, it just… wasn’t there.

Fresh ingredients and clean cooking speak for themselves.

The two-sided experience: casual, lively, and unexpectedly fun

The restaurant has a split layout. One side operates like a traditional casual lunch spot, ideal for a quick bite. The other is more of a chill “lounge” area, complete with a bar, TVs, a pool table, and speakers that can turn the space into a full vibe when needed.

Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or planning a group hangout, there’s a space that fits.

A prime location surrounded by local favorites

Shawarma Vegas sits on the busy corner of Durango and Flamingo, a hotspot for local gems. We’ve covered many of the neighboring spots in past Everyday.Vegas stories — Mint Indian Bistro for dinner, What’s Crêpe for dessert, Claw World for arcade fun, and Milpa for modern Mexican.

For locals, this intersection feels like the center of our side of town — the sweet spot between Summerlin and the Southwest. A genuine food hub packed with great options.

A Middle Eastern staple worth returning to

By the time we wrapped up lunch and walked to the car, we were full, happy, and surprisingly light on our feet. That alone says a lot about the food — flavorful, satisfying, but never overly heavy.

Shawarma Vegas remains one of those spots where you always know what you’re going to get: authentic flavor, honest hospitality, and a meal that hits every time.

If you’ve never been, make it your next stop. If you’ve been before, you already know you’ll be back.
