Sickies Garage Brings Burgers, Brews, and Americana to Town Square

This past weekend, after the kids finished running around Supa Claw trying to win a few plushies, we walked through Town Square looking for a cool place to have lunch. And you cannot spell cool without saying Sickies. Well, technically you can, but you get what I mean.

I had personally visited Sickies Garage a few times before, but this was the first time we walked past it with the kids. The moment they caught a glimpse of the old-fashioned gas station display near the entrance, the questions started coming.

What is this place? Is that a real gas station? Why is there a car inside?

So, naturally, as a responsible adult, I had no choice but to take them inside and show them around.

Burgers Born in the Garage

Although Sickies Garage is not exactly the type of small mom-and-pop restaurant we usually spotlight, it is also far from feeling like a massive national chain. The restaurant started with a group of friends spending time around motorcycles, cars, garage projects, and a grill that always seemed to be running.

In the early 2000s, “calling in a sickie” was not necessarily about taking a sick day. It meant stepping away from everyday responsibilities and getting back into the garage, working on a car, riding a motorcycle, spending time with friends, and experimenting with burgers that became more creative with every round.

Those backyard and garage creations eventually became the foundation of Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews. The first restaurant opened in Fargo, North Dakota, in 2012, and the concept slowly expanded into other markets, including Las Vegas.

Today, the restaurant is known for its long list of specialty burgers, a large beer selection, and an atmosphere built around American automotive culture, garage creativity, and casual comfort food.

Walking Into a Piece of Americana

Before reaching the dining room, you pass through a small vintage-inspired merchandise area filled with shirts, shot glasses, automotive memorabilia, and decorations that look like they were collected during a road trip through old-school America.

From there, the restaurant opens into a large dining space designed to resemble a combination of a retro diner, neighborhood garage, and American sports bar.

License plates cover sections of the walls. Old-fashioned advertisements and road signs hang throughout the room. Some tables are built with seating that resembles the back bench of a classic pickup truck.

Every corner has something different to look at, making the walk to your table part of the experience.

A Full-Size Surprise Above the Dining Room

One of the funniest moments happened while we were following the host toward our table. The kids suddenly stopped walking and looked straight up.

Suspended from the ceiling was a full-size car hanging completely upside down.

For a few seconds, they were not sure whether to laugh, ask questions, or try to figure out how someone managed to get an entire vehicle onto the ceiling. It was one of those small family moments that immediately made the restaurant feel memorable.

The automotive theme is everywhere, but it never feels like a museum where you are afraid to touch anything. It is playful, loud, colorful, and built to keep your eyes moving around the room.

The Bar Side of Sickies Garage

As you continue through the restaurant, you pass the bar area, which includes traditional bar seating and several high-top tables.

The bar gives Sickies another personality. Families can settle into the main dining room, while adults looking to watch a game, enjoy wings, or grab a cold beer can sit closer to the televisions and taps.

That flexibility makes the restaurant work for several different occasions. It can be a family lunch after exploring Town Square, a casual dinner with friends, or a relaxed stop for burgers and brews at the bar.

Creative Burgers and Comfort Food

Sickies may be known primarily as a burger restaurant, but the menu goes far beyond a basic cheeseburger and fries.

The restaurant offers a long list of burger combinations, chicken sandwiches, wings, appetizers, salads, and familiar comfort-food sides. Some burgers stay relatively traditional, while others are stacked with fried eggs, bacon, sauces, cheese, and unexpected toppings.

For our table, we ordered a mix of burgers, chicken, fries, macaroni and cheese, and enough food to keep everyone happy.

Eggstraordinary Burger

The Eggstraordinary Burger arrives topped with a fried egg, two strips of peppered bacon, and American cheese.

It is the kind of burger that works equally well for lunch, dinner, or for anyone who believes breakfast ingredients belong on everything.

The egg adds richness to the beef, while the peppered bacon brings saltiness, texture, and a little extra bite. The American cheese melts into the burger and keeps the entire combination familiar and comforting.

It is not overly complicated, but it is messy in the right way. Once the egg yolk begins running into the burger, napkins become mandatory.

Black & Bleu Burger

The Black & Bleu Burger is made with a Wagyu beef patty topped with melted bleu cheese, bourbon-glazed bacon, and spicy mayonnaise, all served on a brioche bun.

This was the boldest burger at the table.

The bleu cheese brings a sharp, tangy flavor that stands out immediately, while the glazed bacon adds a slightly sweet and smoky layer. The spicy mayo helps pull everything together without overpowering the beef.

It is a rich burger with plenty of personality, especially for anyone who enjoys stronger cheeses and toppings that bring sweet, salty, smoky, and spicy flavors into one bite.

Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich

The Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich features a breaded and fried chicken breast coated in hot honey sauce and served over creamy coleslaw with honey mustard and pickles.

The chicken had a satisfying crunch, while the hot honey sauce created a balance between sweetness and gentle heat.

The coleslaw added coolness and texture underneath the chicken, and the pickles helped cut through the richness. The honey mustard added another sweet and tangy layer without making the sandwich feel overloaded.

For anyone who is not in the mood for beef, this is a strong alternative that still delivers the same oversized, indulgent Sickies Garage style.

Chicken Tenders, Fries, and Mac and Cheese

For the kids, we ordered chicken tenders with fries and macaroni and cheese.

The tenders were simple, crispy, and easy to share. The fries were exactly what you want next to a burger or chicken basket, while the macaroni and cheese added another familiar side for younger diners.

Nothing needed to be overly creative here. Sometimes, especially when dining with kids, crispy chicken and a dependable bowl of macaroni and cheese are exactly what the table needs.

A Family Lunch With Garage Personality

What stood out most about Sickies Garage was how naturally it worked for everyone at the table.

The kids were entertained by the gas station entrance, truck-inspired seating, wall decorations, and the upside-down car. The adults had a large menu, cold drinks, creative burgers, and plenty of televisions around the dining room.

The restaurant was casual enough that we did not have to worry about the kids being completely silent, but it was still comfortable enough to sit back and enjoy a full lunch.

Our service was friendly and efficient, the prices felt fair for the portion sizes, and the restaurant gave us a cool break from walking around Town Square on a hot Las Vegas afternoon.

Pulling Into Sickies Garage

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews is a great place to enjoy a burger, meet friends, bring the kids, or grab a beer and wings at the bar.

It may not be a tiny independent neighborhood restaurant, but the location still has enough personality to feel connected to the people walking through Town Square. The restaurant manages to combine the energy of a sports bar, the comfort of an American diner, and the visual fun of a vintage garage.

After the kids are done running through the park, shopping, or trying their luck at Supa Claw, Sickies offers a place where everyone can cool down, recharge, and find something familiar on the menu.

Next time you are walking through Town Square and craving a burger, look for the old gas station out front, step inside the garage, and remember to look up. There may be an entire car hanging above your head.
