Dinosaur Outpost at Town Square: A Prehistoric Family Adventure

On my last trip with my kids, I found the perfect spot to burn a couple of joyful hours—Dinosaur Outpost at Town Square.

If your kids are into dinosaurs like my son is, you’re going to want to add this one to your family’s bucket list.

What started as a way to get out of the house for a couple of hours turned into a full-fledged prehistoric adventure packed with hands-on activities, creative games, and memorable moments.

Where to Find It

Dinosaur Outpost is located in Town Square, just a couple of doors down from Ooza Palooza and directly across the park from Popstroke.

Parking was easy and accessible, and it’s the kind of place you can plan your whole day around.

After a visit to the Outpost, there’s plenty to do, eat, and explore nearby without needing to get back in the car. A great family-friendly burger spot, or try your luck at a claw arcade.

One helpful tip: Every visitor, including adults, must sign a waiver.

You can do it onsite, but it’s quicker and smoother to fill it out online before arriving. Especially with young kids who can’t wait to get started, saving those few minutes goes a long way.

A Grand Entrance to the Jurassic

From the moment we stepped inside, the staff were welcoming and child-friendly.

They set the tone right away with an interactive scanner that the kids need to activate to open the door to the Outpost—a fun way to instantly engage them.

It was a small touch, but it made them feel like little explorers entering a special prehistoric world.

Exploring the Outpost

At first glance, the place doesn’t seem very big, but don’t be fooled.

As you move through the exhibits, you’ll notice the Outpost opens up into a much larger space in the back.

The flow is intuitive, and the entire environment is designed to immerse kids in a dinosaur-themed experience from start to finish.

Highlights Along the Trail

The Outpost is filled with life-like dinosaur models, creative exhibits, and interactive stations that blend learning with play.

Some highlights from our visit included:

• A tug-of-war game against a dino
• Puzzles and sand pits where kids dig for bones
• Mini exhibits like brushing a dinosaur’s teeth
• Shooting rubber balls into targets
• Building a 3D dinosaur skeleton

What makes it all even better is the presence of friendly “rangers” scattered throughout the space.

The rangers assist the kids with the activities, explain what they’re seeing, and help guide them to the next interactive spot.

Their enthusiasm added a great deal of energy to the experience.

Drawing Comes to Life

One of the standout features for my kids was the drawing section.

Here, children get to paint their dinosaur on paper.

The real fun begins when they finish: a ranger scans their drawing, and it comes to life on a giant screen in front of them.

The moment their dinosaur appeared on the screen, my kids’ eyes lit up with joy.

They were so excited that they ended up painting two or three more just to see their creations come to life.

Over 30 Interactive Exhibits

In total, the Outpost features approximately 30 mini-interactive exhibits.

There’s so much to do that kids are constantly moving from one game to the next, never getting bored.

Each section is just long enough to be engaging without feeling like a commitment.

It’s paced perfectly for short attention spans while still being immersive.

Who Will Enjoy Dinosaur Outpost Most?

Based on our visit, Dinosaur Outpost seems best suited for preschool and elementary-age children, especially kids between roughly 3 and 10 years old. Younger children can enjoy the life-size dinosaurs, sensory activities, play areas, and colorful atmosphere, while children who can follow instructions and move independently will get more from the interactive games and exhibits.

Older children may still enjoy the experience, particularly if they are enthusiastic about dinosaurs, but most of the activities are designed around hands-on play, imagination, and shorter attention spans rather than a traditional museum experience.

Participation is determined by height rather than age. Children shorter than 36 inches can enter without an admission ticket and participate in most of the experience, although three attractions are unavailable to them.

• Annie the Pachyrhinosaurus: Riders must be at least 36 inches tall. The two seats have a combined maximum weight of 250 pounds.
• Outpost Explorer Vehicles: Designed for children between 36 and 48 inches tall.
• Dino play structure: Children must be taller than 36 inches to enter, and socks are required.

Because children develop at different rates, families should consider their child’s comfort with life-size moving dinosaurs, active play, climbing, and interactive activities—not only their age.

Things To Know Before Your Dino Expedition

Here are a few logistics worth noting:

• Admission is $27 per person (every guest 36 inches or taller needs a ticket). Local residents receive $3 off per ticket.
• The visit took us about 1.5 hours total, but you could easily stay longer if your kids are particularly engaged.
• There’s a small food court inside offering drinks and light snacks—perfect for a quick refuel.
• A souvenir shop awaits at the exit, stocked with dino-themed toys and gifts.
• Private rooms are available for birthday parties or private events.

A Full Day Outing After A Triassic Experience

One of the best parts of visiting Dinosaur Outpost is its location.

After our adventure, we walked right over to the Town Square playground for more fun.

Everything you need for a full day out is within walking distance—no extra driving or wrangling the kids into car seats.
